Devotional #10

Wise and Foolish Builders - Matthew 7:24-28

This passage is the ending part of Jesus' famous"Sermon on the Mount".  In that sermon Jesus shared a lot of wisdom about how we should live in our relationship God, with each other and how to be happy in life.  Jesus says...

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Questions/Practical Application

1. What is a foundation?  (The base or bottom part of which you stack things on.  Can also relate the story of the 3 little pigs - straw, sticks and bricks).

2. If you could build your fantasy basketball dream team, who are some of the players you would like to build your team on or around?  (Lebron, Curry, Young, Yannis, Luka Doncic, Chris Paul, etc)

3. What do you think are the key qualities or skills that are needed to build a strong team in our league?  (Good coaching, leadership, committment, teamwork, humility, discipline.  Strong skills needed in every position - describe guards, forward and center roles).

When the "storms of life" or hard times come your way, a strong foundation will help your to win!
