Warm-up – Dynamic stretching. Everything is halfcourt and back to the baseline 2x

  1. High knees
  2. Butt kicks
  3. Karaoke
  4. Frankenstein’s
  5. Forward lunge to half court then backward lung back
  6. 50% speed to half court and back
  7. 75% speed to half court and back
  8. 100% speed to half court and back

Dribbling 

  • Review good dribbling techniqe
  • Have players practice the following drills: Figure 8; Figure 8 with 2 balls; Sea Saw; Windshield Wiper; Sea Saw Windshield Wiper Combo  (Drill 301) 
  • See what level players can get to (Rookie - MVP)

Passing

  • Review good passing technique. 
  • Count good chest passes with a partner or the wall within a minute.  Increase the distance or number of reps to buid up strength and accuracy (Drill 311)

Shooting

  • Review good shooting technique
  • Work on the touch drill from 3 spots.  Start in close and focus on form (Drill 321)
  • Divide the teams into 3 groups behind each spot.  Take one shot a go to the back of your line.  Set a target and see how many shots can be made in 2 minutes as a team.  Only count makes that do not touch any part of the rim or backboard.

Defense

Dribble/Pass/ Lay-ups.

Two-line passing with layups. (Only two basketballs needed for this drill)

  • Both lines start at half court.
  • One line starts with the ball. 
  • The first person in the line with the balls will dribble to the 3-point line. At the same time the first person in the other line will sprint to the basket.
  •  Once the ball handler gets to the 3-point line they will throw a strong bounce pass to the person running towards the basket who will then shoot a layup.
  • The passer will get the rebound and then they will switch lines.

3 on 3 half court Scrimmage

  • Focus on making strong and accurate passes
  • Cutting without the ball
  • Staying in front of your man on defense
    • Stay low
    • High hands
    • Slide your feet

5 on 5 half court

  • Same focuses as 3 on 3
